DJ Tech From Start To Finish
I often get asked the same questions about DJ tech. I’m a tech guy first and foremost. I work in tech. I develop tech. And from a very young age I’ve had a fondness for gear and equipment. I dig my toys. I’m not a turntablist, certainly, but I’ve been involved with many aspects of music production from concert recording to live music mixing to PA construction to sound system design to podcast recording and editing. I’m BluesSHOUT‘s technical director and the equipment coordinator for the Austin Swing Syndicate. Basically, I spend a lot of time making sure that when a DJ shows up to a dance, the music comes out of the speakers.
Covering PA (public address / room speaker) systems is outside the scope of this page, but I’ve found that more often than not, a DJ is his/her own worst enemy when it comes to playing good sounding music at venues.
